Denmark is a Beautiful Place to Visit

Jutland is the main part of Denmark, which is a peninsula located towards the north of Germany. It also consists of other islands with Zealand and Funen being the biggest.

The climate in Denmark is mild, and it is often wet and rainy there because it is located on the coast. The summers in Denmark are really cool with an average temperature of 19oC and fairly cold temperature in winter with an average high of 1oC.

The nine regional centers in Denmark are as follows:

  • Copenhagen (København): this is the capital city of Denmark and the largest. Copenhagen is a really vibrant capital, and there are lots of things to see and experience here.
  • Aarhus: this is the second largest city in Denmark and the main city of the Jutland peninsula. It is famous for its historic open-air museum.
  • Esbjerg
  • Aalborg: there is a beautiful city center here, and the Jomfru Ane Gade is located here too, where you’ll get the best nightlife in the city.
  • Herning: has a great entry point to the western coast beaches in Jutland.
  • Rønne
  • Sønderborg
  • Odense: this is the home to Egeskov Castle (one of the most preserved Renaissance castle situated in Europe.
  • Nykøbing Falster: you can set out to the mighty chalk cliffs of Møn, explore the old abbey and the castle, or even visit the good beaches on the islands.

Eating out in Denmark could be pretty expensive. You can check out pizza stands and kebab shops for a budget meal. The traditional Danish meals are made with seafood, so you should expect lots of herring in your dish. Heart meat, particularly pork is also popular in Denmark.

Wherever you want to eat, avoid restaurants with multiple languages in their menu.

Denmark is generally an expensive country. All the consumer goods and services have a sales tax of 25% which has already been included in the displayed prices. Getting food or drinks can be really expensive if you are on a budget. Don’t get so surprised when you see a print of beer for about $8 at a bar or restaurant.

Big Ben

When you think of London,  you automatically think of Big Ben.  This has to be the world’s most iconic clock tower.  Located at the north end of the Palace of Westminster, is in one of the world’s most famous tourist attractions. Definitely go on the hour to hear the chimes.  It is busy with tourists trying to take picture of it so the bridge can be crowded. Even busy it is definitely worth seeing and taking in the architecture surrounding it. Big Ben will  unfortunately go silent soon till 2021 due to renovations. But you need to see this iconic clock that most of us grew up seeing in our childhood books.

Buckingham Palace

You have to stop at Buckingham Palace, right? Your trip would not be complete without seeing the working headquarters of the Monarchy.  The Changing of the Guards is a colorful spectacle of British pageantry. I met a vacationer and his family who owns a small business in Arizona (Mesa Painting Pros) and he told me he watched the show twice and never saw a guard waiver or smile. The stoic ceremony lasts about 45 minutes and is an amazing sight to see.

If you get a chance, visit the State Rooms using the headphones and mini tablet so you can stroll through at your own pace and listen to the history of the palace in your language.  Also, the gardens are magnificent to see.  Pictures are not allowed inside so you really have to see it for yourself.  They do offer guided tours so if you are limited on time this option might be more beneficial for you.

Westminster Abbey

You can’t leave London without seeing Westminster Abbey. This 700 year old building has over one million visitors a year.

The Abbey is the place where the royals hold coronations, funerals and other religious ceremonies.  Princess Diana’s funeral was held here.  The Abbey is rich with history, paintings, stained glass, other artifacts. You can join in for worship daily and guided tours are offered.  You need to visit the Abbey to truly appreciate the stunning architecture and get a postcard worthy picture.

Kensington Palace

Kensington Palace is the former home to Queen Victoria and Princess Diana.  This beautiful palace has exhibits throughout.  Currently the Princess Diana:Fashion Story is being displayed.  Come and see some of her elegant dresses and outfits.  Diana, Princess of Wales was considered a fashion icon of her time. Make sure to take a stroll through the well manicured gardens that Princess Diana loved to visit.  She raised Prince William and Harry at Kensington Palace.  Prince William and his family now reside here.

It is just a special place to visit knowing Princess Diana lived there.  You can’t help but love the “Princess for the People” as she was known.

The London Bridge

The London Bridge has beautiful views and is a great place to take pictures. The view at night is stunning with the city illuminated.

Definitely worth taking the time to stroll across it and enjoy the view.  London Bridge is in a trendy part of town, the food is great and it is close to the Tower of London so you can visit both attractions at once.
